METROCOLOR LABORATORIES, wich had come into existence more than 50 years earlier as M-G-N Labs, closed on Thursday, August 24, 1989. Located on the M-G-N studio lot, the laboratories had been acquired by Lorimar-Telepictures, which formed a joint partnership to operate them with the Walt Disney Company in 1987, following the U.S. Justice Department’s refusal to permit the takeover of the laboratories Technicolor. The closure of the laboratories was forced by Disney’s rescinding its partnership agreement with Lorimar-Telepictures and taking its film processing to Technicolor.
